The heat is on, with temperatures expecting to hit mid-to-high 20s (°C) in the Queen City this summer. Stay cool by slapping on sunscreen, shades, a hat, and seeking out some water-related fun near our Regina hotel

Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Did you know that downtown Regina is situated on a large man-made lake? Wascana Lake was created in 1883 with the damming of Wascana Creek and supplied both the city and the newly built legislative building with domestic water.

Today, the lake serves as a Regina tourism and recreational hub. While it is not recommended to go swimming in Wascana Lake, due to the many waterfowl that have—pardon the pun—fouled up the lake, it is open to all non-motorized watercraft, including:

  • Canoes
  • Kayaks
  • Rowboats and sculls
  • Outriggers
  • Sailboats
  • Standup Paddleboards (SUPs)

Canoe, kayak and SUP rentals are available at the Wascana Centre.

Seek Some Sand

Just a short 30-minute drive from north-end Regina, Saskatchewan hotels such as the Comfort Suites, the lakeshore community of Regina Beach has a large sandy beach and several fun things to do with the family, including swimming, fishing, and boating on Last Mountain Lake.

Keeping the Kids Cool

When the temperature rises, keep your kids’ heads above water by taking them to one of the many outdoor splash and spray parks located near places to stay in Regina. Visit:

  • Northwest Outdoor Splash Park, located just 4 kilometres away in the Lakewood neighbourhood
  • Kinsmen Park South Playground, just east of the airport
  • Al Ritchie Outdoor Spray Park, directly north of the Saskatchewan Science Centre
  • Sandra Schmirler Outdoor Spray Pad, 15 minutes southeast of the Comfort Suites off Prince of Wales Drive.

Swim, Splash and Stay

Super convenient to access, our Regina hotel's swimming pools will be instantly loved by kids. Comfort Suites’ Indoor Waterpark features a Kids’ Splash Zone with 40-foot twisting waterslide! Work on your front crawl or breaststroke undisturbed in the adjacent lap pool and then soak those tired muscles in the jetted hot tub.

Our pool hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Please note that the pool is closed from June 10-June 19, 2019 for routine maintenance.
